What is a sand and oil interceptor, and how is it different from a grease trap?
A grease trap catches the fats, oil, and grease that come off cooking. A sand and oil interceptor catches the heavier sand, grit, and petroleum oil that wash off vehicles and shop floors. Different waste and a different tank, but the idea is the same: keep it out of the public sewer. Both fill up, both need pumping on a schedule, and both are regulated by the city.
How often does a car wash interceptor need to be cleaned?
It depends on your traffic and how much sand and grit comes through. A busy tunnel wash can need it monthly, while a lighter self-serve or a shop bay may go longer. The city expects the interceptor kept from filling and overflowing into the drain, so we set the schedule to your actual volume and adjust it once we see how fast it loads.
Do you handle the oil and the sludge disposal?
Yes. We pump the settled sand and sludge off the bottom and the separated oil off the top, haul both, and dispose of them properly. You get a manifest for the service, same as the grease side.
